Daisuke Fukumoto and Akihito Ihara from SDLab presented at the Winter Workshop 2023 in Toyama, 20-21 January 2023. Mr. Fukumoto presented his paper titled “Toward Building a Code Completion Model for a Specific Project”. The paper discusses the challenge and solution of Deep Learning-based code completion in that the models cannot suggest appropriate code for a specific project. Mr.Ihara presented his paper titled “Towards Automating Code Review Using Data Flow Graph”.

Junya Hishikawa from SDLab presented at SIG-KBSE2023, 19-20 January 2023. Mr. Hishikawa presented his paper titled “Toward Analyzing OSS Developers Contributing to the Removal of Technical Debt in Multiple Projects”. The paper discusses the challenge and solution of analyzing the characteristics of developers who contribute to the removal of technical debt in multiple projects.

Yutaro Kashiwa, an assistant professor at SDLab, gave a presentation at the journal-first track of ICSME 2022 (the 38th IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance and Evolution). The research is a collaborative work with Kyushu University, the University of Tokyo, and Concordia University (Canada). The research investigated the effect of Self-Admitted Technical Debt (SATD) on code review. The research proposal by assistant professor Kashiwa has been granted the ‘Strategy of SAKIGAKE’ (https://www.jst.go.jp/kisoken/presto/en/index.html) fund by the Japan Science and Technology Agency. The funding for the ‘Strategy of SAKIGAKE’ was established under the Strategic Basic Research Programs set up by the Japanese government. As many researchers submit research proposals but only a very small number are accepted, obtaining this funding is known as a gateway to success for young researchers.

Today, Mr. Wassapon Watanakeesuntorn has received the doctoral degree in engineering, and Mr. Guoqing Li and Mr. Purit Phanudom have received the master’s degree in engineering. Congratulations!

Today, our two lab members, Mr. Tomoki Sugiura and Ms. Moe Shimada, have received their master’s degree in engineering. Congratulations!

Mr. Kundjanasith Thonglek (Tem), a second-year doctoral student at SDLab received the Young Engineer Award from the Technical Committee on Energy Engineering in Electronics and Communications. The Technical Committee on Energy Engineering in Electronics and Communications focuses on power supply systems, circuits, and compornent technology which supply stable and high-quality energy to communication systems. The committee has been working to improve the motivation of young researchers by awording their outstanding research in this field.

Mr. Tomoki Sugiura of our laboratory presented a paper entitled “Acar: An application-aware network routing system using SRv6” at IEEE Consumer Communications & Networking Conference (CCNC2022), held from January 8 to 11, 2022. In this presentation, we introduced our research achievements on determining optimal routes for each application focusing on latency and throughput, and SRv6-based control methods based on these optimal routes.

Mr. Guoqing Li, a master student from SDLab and Dr. Dario Faggioli, a virtualization specialist from SUSE lab gave a joint talk on the topic of KubeVirt: The cost of Containerizing VMs at KVM Forum 2021. KubeVirt is an add-on for Kubernetes to manage both containers and VMs in a unified manner. They evaluated the performance impact of resource usage accounting and limitation caused by container runtimes, as well as the architectural limitation resulted from integrating QEMU/KVM into Kubernetes stack.
