At SDLab, we conduct research on techniques that support software development and design. Especially, while preserving human’s creativity, we focus on engineering supports such as design process, modeling theory of design information and implementation techniques.

Research

At SDLab, we are conducting research on techniques that support software development. Our current research topics include:

  • Analysis of software-related data such as source code and development history
  • Analysis of development process and software design
  • Virtualization technology, in particular SDN (Software Defined Networking)
  • Software analytics (data analysis that helps developers to understand the progress of software development projects and make better decisions)
  • HPC (High Performance Computing, large-scale scientific computing using supercomputers)

Mr. Morikawa presented his research at ICSME 2024
Yasuhito Morikawa, an M2 student in our laboratory, presented the following paper at The 40th International Conference on Software Maintenance and Evolution (ICSME2024) on Oct 9th-11th, 2024. Yasuhito Morikawa, Yutaro Kashiwa, Kenji Fujiwara, Hajimu Iida: RevToken: A Token-Level Review Recommendation: How Far Are We?, In Proceedings of the 40th IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance and Evolution(ICSME2024), Oct. 2024. This study proposes a token-level approach to recommend where developers review, which is finer-grained than the previous studies, with the aim of reducing the burden on reviewers in the review process.

This study conducted an empirical investigation into the use of Dockerfile Preprocessors (DPP), a set of scripts designed to generate Dockerfiles compatible with multiple environments.

Wei Zheyuan, a second-year master’s student in our laboratory, presented his research at IPSJ SIG Internet and Operation Technology (IOT). He introduced his research titled “A Proposal of Path Selection Method by SRv6 for Optimizing Multipath QUIC Performance,” which proposed a model to optimize Multipath QUIC transmission performance by SRv6, and received a Student Research Award.

Students from our laboratory presented their research at SES 2024
Shun Fujita, Ibuki Nakamura, Tatsuya Shirai, and Riku Kato from our laboratory presented at the Software Engineering Symposium 2024 (SES 2024), held from September 17 to 19, 2024. Nakamura presented in the General Paper Track on the topic, “Towards an Empirical Investigation into Self-Admitted Technical Debt in Test Code”. His research focused on the distribution and types of SATD (Self-Admitted Technical Debt) in test code. He revealed that various types of SATD exist in test code, and certain SATD unique to test code that have not been covered in previous research were identified.
